The corporate world is always looking for the new, exciting, and innovative options to stay ahead of the curve in the fast-moving society that we now live in here in the United States. Virtual workplaces in the corporate setting would have seemed very futuristic even a few years ago, but now it just seems all the more plausible. Being able to meet and converse with a large stable of people related to your field available at the pushing of a virtual media board is absolutely something Tom Cruise was using in the 2002 movie, Minority Report, and I have to say it seemed very 2030 like back then but now I fully expect to have one before the close of this decade if not much sooner. 3D technology is still in the early stages, but give it a little time and interacting with others across the world will be easier than pressing send on your iPhone. Space and time constraints are virtually eliminated in this scenario. (See what I did there.) The virtual workplace as it is described from Austin's POV just makes Skype seem like ancient technology. Job mobility is also a very big positive whereby collaborating with past colleagues will provide new and exciting opportunities.
I found an article where the author gives a small impression of the experience she had while using a Virtual Community software, and was very positive about the experience she had with it. Like me, she was very impressed with the collaborative innovations that it had, and being able to virtually edit a PowerPoint presentation with others viewing on the fly seemed like a great way to streamline and speed along the project in order to go right along to the next project. The corporate world is always trying to be more productive while staying efficient and this program certainly lends itself to both.
