In Darin Barney’s Network Technology he expresses multiple theories of the impact of technology in our society. He surrounds his principles around the three approaches of instrumentalism, substantivism, and social constructivism. Though there may not be a right approach or a combination of a few, I tend to agree with the substantivism approach. Technology impacts society and its individuals and often drives people to do things.people are feeding, act and are affected by technology. He describes it perfectly when Grant states, “Technology in general, embodies and enforces a particular way of being in this world. So to answer the beginning question of does society make what the internet is or does the internet make what society is? I believe the internet and technology is in control here. Technology is increasing at such a rapid pace its crazy. Just a few years ago laptops weren’t even around, now every single student owns one. As the technology continues to increase society is flustering behind trying to keep up with at every second. When that new technological item comes out, individuals waste little time to consume it. It makes society influence the idea that you have to have the newest and updated things. If you still have one of those box T.V.’s and not a flat screen then your way behind. Technology is taking over the world.
